US Ambassador Mary Kay Carlson Visits the AWCP Bazaar

The American Women’s Club of the Philippines was honored to have US Ambassador Mary Kay Carlson visit our May AWCP Charity Bazaar. Despite her extremely busy schedule, the Ambassador made the time to drop by. AWCP volunteers, vendors, and shoppers alike were honored to host her and share with her the Filipino handicrafts, food and services that these small entrepreneurs offer the local community.

AWCP is proud to offer the Charity Bazaar as a long-standing service to our community that supports and empowers local small businesses. Starting in 1981, the AWCP Charity Bazaar has become a place where many Filipino brands had their start before going on to expand into well-established enterprises. Many of these companies are also social enterprises whose profits benefit specific marginalized communities in need of support (read our previous blog post to hear some of their inspiring stories and causes!). This event also supports AWCP’s charitable initiatives, like our new project surrounding menstrual health. As a woman-run organization, we feel it important to champion issues that affect us uniquely.

This Is not Ambassador Carlson’s first time supporting AWCP, but it was her first visit at the Charity Bazaar. Fond of shopping herself, we hope the Ambassador enjoyed browsing the stalls of our vendors as we had quite the variety this time! This visit means a lot to us as Ambassador Carlson’s presence helped to generate even more excitement and goodwill for an initiative that ultimately turns a fun day of shopping into valuable support for local businesses and communities. We are so thankful to her and her team for making this special visit possible, and we look forward to continuing to support each other in our activities.
